ONLINE-TOOL TO INSPIRE AND LINK COMMUNITY GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALS TO RESOURCES NEEDED TO REALISE THEIR PROJECT IDEAS

What is the challenge

There are numerous community groups and individuals out there with good project ideas that could benefit their community, but no clue how to overcome certain barriers (such as a lack of funding, lack of people -support or expertise- or no space) to develop their ideas to real projects. The lack of knowledge and support discourages community groups and individuals and hinders the realisation of plenty of projects with community purposes that could have potentially made a big difference in strengthening the community resilience in the local area.

WHY DO WE HAVE THIS CHALLENGE?

Municipalities, local authorities, and public services have undergone increasing cuts, which results in less budget, time and support to assist local communities. This forces community groups and individuals that would like to make a change in their community to increasingly work more independently, which often nips already some good project ideas in the bud. In order to help communities and individuals to realise their project ideas many websites and online support already exist. However, they are often hidden under very specific key words or presented in a technical language and through not user-friendly websites that are often too detailed and/ or focused on very specific areas. For potential project initiators, this hinders the process of gaining a first overview, inspiration and high-level information, and discourages a further "online digging" to overcome certain barriers that may occur to realise the specific project ideas.

TURAS Solutions

To support community groups and individuals overcoming resource barriers in order to realise their project ideas, the Community Gains website provides high-level information to practical solutions and case studies and links to websites with more detailed information. The website is categorised in the different potential resource barriers that community groups and individuals may face and contains practical solution and inspiration to overcome them. Community Gains aims to assist inspiration and support seekers to easily gain a quick overview of their opportunities, to get inspired by a variety of traditional and innovative solutions and to be linked to practical solutions, case studies and further information in how to realise them. Community Gains is designed to be applicable for Europe but its research content focuses currently mainly on the UK due to a lack of European examples and case studies. However, it aims to collect and add more European examples and case studies from partners to broaden its applicability for Europe.
